Hi!
My name is Heather Hinam. I’m a naturalist, educator, artist, and interpreter based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I founded Second Nature in 2011 with the goal to share nature stories through engaging experiences and interpretation.
It started out as a tour company, offering small, personalized nature-based experiences. Then, one day, a colleague asked if I could help them create an interpretive nature trail. I jumped at the chance to combine my backgrounds in science, interpretation, and art, and the rest, they say, is history.
10 years
To celebrate my 10th anniversary, I relaunched the business under the name Second Nature Creative Interpretation to reflect how it has evolved over the last decade.

Today, I am happy to help you develop engaging, creative, and beautiful interpretive media, whether it’s a physical exhibit, digital piece, or a combination of the two. I bring to the table a Ph.D. in ecology, over 30 years of experience as an artist, and as a nature and heritage interpreter. I also work in partnership with some really talented people, depending on the project’s needs, including Little Bluestem Landscape Architecture + Design for outdoor interpretive planning and Bytesyze Design for graphic design. I also partner with interior exhibit designers and other experts to ensure that whatever the project, we have the right people for the job.
